  1. If you are an expert in using modems, you can define the modem communication and low-level tone generation communication preference settings by selecting the Expert command in the Dialing Preferences dialog box.

  3. Before doing this, read your modem manual to understand fully what modem commands are available and how to use them.

When entering a modem string, use a caret “^” to designate the character that follows as a control character.  Address Book Plus determines the control character by subtracting hex $40 from the uppercase character following the caret.  For example, the string “^M” is translated into a carriage return.

  7. To send a caret to the modem, place a back slash (\) before it.  To send a single back slash to the modem, type two back slashes.
